Party on Magnetic Island

Bird Watching

Attention: open in a new window. PDFPrint

birdingMagnetic Island is the perfect holiday location for bird watching or 'birding'. The island has recorded 186 native birds, and it offers them a wide variety of habitats.

Some of these quirky characters like the bush stone-curlew, the majestic brahminy kite and the industrious Australian brush turkey are permanent residents, but depending on the season there will also be a few 'visitors' resting on their migration routes.

The most comprehensive list of local birdlife can be found at NQ Dry Tropics. Go through their A-Z listings.

During the wet season (January  to March) you'll also find that the Horseshoe Bay Lagoon comes alive, and walking it's boardwalk is a great way to check out the bird activity.
