Monday 8 June from 9am until late, Magnetic Island celebrates World Oceans Day. It will be a fun, family friendly day with kids games, art and craft, beach BBQ, face painting, ocean art, talks, beach clean ups and a live performance by the Micka Scene (Pacha Mama) and Sarah Little at Base Magnetic Island.

This world wide project connects 85 countries who are focussed on protecting, as well as celebrating about our world's oceans. In 2009 Magnetic Island was the first location in Australia celebrate World Oceans Day.

The day will include:

9am: Start the day with a beach clean up at the marina wall end of Nelly Bay beach and head toward Base. Bring gloves and garbage bags.

9.30am: Stalls and craft

10am: Kids art and crafts

11am-12pm: Marine talks and information sessions:

• Dr. Katharina Fabricius (The Burdekin and siltation)
• Dr. Jon Brodie (Water quality)
• Dr. Leon Zann (TBC)
• Kathryn Berry, PhD candidate (Marine debris)

12pm-1pm: Lunch $6 BBQ and soft drink with profit being donated

1pm-2pm: Marine talks, videos, information session and kids beach games

2.30pm: Live music with Sarah Little and Micka Scene
