Saturday 4 June from 9.30am until 2.30pm Magnetic Island celebrates World Oceans Day. It will be a fun, family friendly day with kids games, art and craft, beach BBQ, face painting, ocean art, talks, and beach clean ups.

This world wide project connects 85 countries who are focussed on protecting, as well as celebrating about our world's oceans. In 2009 Magnetic Island was the first location in Australia celebrate World Oceans Day.

The day will include:

9.30-10am: Nelly Bay beach clean up

10am: Opening for stalls, short videos running, kids activities.

10.30am: Kids and adults parade of marine masks and selfies of groups and individuals.

11.30-11.45: 1+ minute talks by school students or adults on why the oceans are so important to them.

11.45am-12.15 pm: Marine Talk by Dr Jon Brodie (JCU).

12.15- 1.30pm: BBQ lunch can be purchased at Base. Short videos will be running and stalls will be open.

1.30-2.30pm: Games on the beach, and another human WOD photograph on the beach.

Nelly Bay Snorkel Trail is 100m from Base. Tides are best today for snorkelling the trails from 11am-1pm.
