World Oceans Day is a global day of ocean celebration and collaboration for a better future, normally celebrated on the 8th June each year. Magnetic Island State School will be celebrating World Oceans Day at the school and at Nelly Bay beach on Thursday 6th June.
This year they have a focus on preventing plastics and encouraging solutions for a healthy ocean. Students from Magnetic Island School, Years 4 to 6 are presenting to the whole school about the incredible marine life we have around Magnetic Island – the snubfin dolphins and dugongs. They will also have visiting scientists David Williamson, Marine Biologist and Dr Rick Braley talking about their research and the local marine environment. The whole school is then participating in creating an art installation about saving marine life from plastics up in the hangar, followed by a beach clean-up and games at Nelly Bay beach.
