Zero Waste Magnetic Island presents the “Hey! Don’t Waste Xmas” exhibition and workshops that showcase artwork made from up-cycled waste which would otherwise go to landfill. Be inspired to reduce your Christmas waste this year and make a difference to reducing waste on Magnetic Island.

Workshops
Marion Gaemers - Two Basket Making Workshops.
Date: Saturday 20 November.
Times: 2 sessions - 9am to 12pm and 1pm to 4pm.
Basket making with plant fibre, waste wire and/or rope. Materials supplied unless you have something specific that you want to use.
Special requirements: BYO food and drink.
Location: 42-46 Horseshoe Bay Road, Horseshoe Bay.
Stay for 2 sessions if you want to finish your piece with Marion or stay for one if you want to learn a new technique.
Fee: $10 per session and proceeds kindly donated to MINCA.
Paul Groves - Rock Making in your Garden Workshop
Date and time: Sunday 21 November, 8am to 12noon.
This workshop will involve converting old wine bottles into fake rocks for the garden. Includes building and integrating them into the garden, so they blend in.
Special requirements: Work will be outside in the sun. Bring hats, sunscreen, gloves, plenty of water and your creativity.
Location: Works will be made at Magnetic Island Turtle Hospital in Horseshoe Bay.
Fee: $20 donation will cover materials with the remainder donated to the Turtle Hospital.
Karen Williams - Coiled Basketry Workshop
Date: Sunday 28 November, 3pm to 5pm.
We will learn the coiling technique exploring different materials, natural and upcycled, that can be utilised for this meditative and accessible process. Coiling can be used to make baskets, bowls, table centres, placemats, coasters, wall decor, floor mats, hats, jewellery, sandals and more.
What to bring: Water, hat, snack, sharp scissors.
Special requirement: We will be sitting on a picnic rug on the ground so if you need a chair you are welcome to bring one along.
Location: Beneath the shade of the glorious fig tree on the Picnic Bay foreshore just near the jetty.
Fee: $10.
