How can we develop an Island-wide Energy System? Join the Magnetic Island Community Energy Working Group this Sunday 27th and Monday 28th March for their Future Energy Workshops and Tour.

Morning Workshops: 8.45am – 1.15pm
Afternoon Tour: 1.30pm – 6pm

The focus will be on how the Magnetic Island community and our key stakeholders can collaboratively develop an Island-wide energy system:

• Which reduces carbon and drives behavioural change
• Develops resilience
• Generates and stores energy
• Manages demand
• Distributes energy across the island
• Produces energy that is cheap, reliable and adaptive
• Provides sustainable development
• Meets our community needs for a low carbon future.


PART ONE: Morning Workshops
8.15 - 8.55am: Tea and coffee on arrival.
9.00 - 9.10am: How the vision process works.
9.10 - 10.00am: Activity One - What Should Be?
Developing and sharing our visions for MI energy.

10.05 - 10.35am: Activity Two - What Is? As it is now,
positive/negatives … enabling/disabling.
10.40 – 11.00am: Short Presentations (5-7 min each)
11.05 – 11.50am: Activity Three - What Could Be?
Developing grounded ideas and projects. Includes
connecting project ideas and opportunities.

11.50-12.30pm: Activity Four - What Can Be?
What can we do and what actions you can take?
12.30 – 12.45pm: Summarise
12.45pm – 1.15pm: Lunch (BYO)


PART TWO: Island Site Tour
1.30pm – 6.00pm: Building Discussions and Sharing
• History of Solar City – MI solar suburb
• Sustainable behaviour on the Island and in our villages
• Examples of residents and businesses, solar panels, batteries/hydrogen, white roofs and lighting etc.


Tour and Site Itinerary:
1. Residents, Businesses and Villages: Sharing stories of
success and learnings.
2. Visiting Picnic Bay: Water reticulation and recycling.
3. Underground cables Nelly Bay: Redundancy and
resilience.
4. Water Recycling Facility HSB: Reduced footprint and
open public access.
5. Solar Skate Park HSB: An opportunity for now and
the future.
6. Smuggler's Wine Bar: Wrap up, drinks and networking.

Monday 28th: Technical Workshop
8.45am – 1.15pm at Peppers Blue On Blue
This workshop will focus on how the Energy Vision for the Island could be best served technically, and how we can bring it to reality. Tea and coffee will be available.
