Queensland Coastal Conference is in Townsville this year (2-4 October) with a field trip to Magnetic Island on the afternoon of Thursday 3rd.
The field trip will include a visit to Horseshoe Bay to the wetland walk and then onto the old site of the STP to show field trippers the country that is being managed as part of an environmental reserve and use as turtle hospital. Then to Alma Bay/Geoffrey Bay and then to Picnic Bay mentioning projects as we go e.g. turtle habitat protection measures and SEVT (vine scrub), and then back to Gustav Creek and Nelly Bay foreshore to have a discussion about the impact of coastal development with regard to Nelly Bay and Gustav Creek. QPWS will provide commentary on what they are doing in terms of National Parks and volunteers and community interaction. Meet at Nelly Bay terminal, ferry ex TSV 12.55pm (5.10pm return to TSV). Ask for John Gunn at the terminal or keep an eye out for a QPWS Ranger.
