Do you have all the facts regarding the Port of Townsville expansion, and the effect it may have? This Saturday 29 April, MICDA have organised a Knowledge Forum that will involve and open discussion among experts, on specific aspects of the proposal. Port staff as well as a range of other experts from the region will examine the issues. While many of you may have already attended a Port of Townsville presentation on their proposed expansion (e.g. MIRRA, TOBMI and MICC meetings) for many residents outstanding questions remain.
A significant number of experts are attending this meeting both representing the Port’s case, and from our community and elsewhere and allowing us the opportunity to further question what might be about to make very significant changes to our shoreline.
We invite you to participate in this opportunity.
Already many questions have been gathered. These include (but are not limited to) the impact of dredging, increased and on-going water turbidity, loss of inshore corals and marine life, threats to protected species, and loss of recreational marine tourism and associated impact on the MI economy.
We appreciate that this is NOT a good time for tourism and many general business operators, but hope that you might be able to send a shared representative or two and we will endeavour to capture as many of the key points as possible.
It is likely that there will be a large attendance. It is essential that you RSVP, in case we need to change the venue. We also request that if you have questions or concerns, email them in NOW, so that we can consolidate topics.
