France and Germany “Le Havre”, named after the industrial port city in northern France, is a tale of lower-depths solidarity. You could easily imagine this story about a young African refugee who comes under the protection of a French shoe-shine man and his neighbours. But ARKI KAUSRISMAIL does not rub our faces in hardships. Figuring that we already know something about how harsh life can be, he reminds us of its modest charms, and how in the face of cruelty people can still behave decently. A charming and beautiful work. New York Times (4 stars).

In order to avoid a scandal in the press, the owner of the bakery orders him to accompany the body back to an unnamed Balkan country to her relatives. Margaret Pomeranz 'At The Movies': (4 stars)

'MEDIANERAS' (M)

Argentina’s capital with it’s hodge-podge of sky scrapers, colossal billboards and web of power lines is the setting for this charming and original romance… Martin and Mariana are almost neighbours, however the chances of them meeting are slim. Martin rarely leaves his shoebox apartment preferring to connect with the world by internet. Mariana’s fear of lifts is a distinct handicap in this high-rise world.
